PI Goodies for November 2007

This month’s PI Goodies include:
Ribbons.UGL: a PI Gradient palette for your Color Panel
200711-JenT.UOL: includes 5 curlicue path object ribbons
Ribbonbrush.SMP: a brush setting to use with your tablet for drawing and tracing your own ribbons

200711-jent-gradientsRibbon Gradients: First back up your own specialized PI Gradients in your Color Panel, because loading my Ribbon Gradients in the Color Panel will replace the existing ones. You save your Gradients by opening the Color Panel/Gradients tab and then clicking on the little arrow in the upper right hand corner of the Color Panel. Next click on “Save Gradients…”. By default, PI names this file “My Gradients”, but you can name it whatever you choose. Remember where you’ve saved this file on your hard drive because you’ll want it back later.

Now you’re ready to load my Ribbon Gradients into the Color Panel. Using the menu in PI’s Color Panel, click on “Load Gradients…” and browse to wherever you downloaded and unzipped the 2007Nov-JenT_ribbons.ugl file. After you click “Open”, under the Multiple-Color section you should now see a total of 10 different gradients, five solid colors, three multi-striped and two ribbon “shader” gradients. Once you’ve finished using my Ribbon Gradients, you can restore your own saved “My Gradients” file by loading them again via the Color Panel.

Ribbon Path Objects: Import the UOL file into your Easy Palette via the Object Library Manager and then drag the ribbons onto PI’s workspace. Each ribbon is made up of a top and bottom path object. Always re-Group the top and bottom ribbon objects before you move or resize the ribbon. If you accidentally move one ribbon object without the other, just Undo until the accidentally moved object is returned to its original position. In order to fool the eye into seeing the ribbon curl, there should be a lighter top object and a darker bottom object. Keep this in mind when you apply your own gradients.

Please note that my Ribbon objects have been created using PI’s default multicolor gradients in order to make importing them easier. Once you have imported both the ribbons.UGL and 200711-JenT.UOL files into PI, you can apply the Ribbon Gradients to the Ribbon path objects.

The 200711-JenT.ZIP file can be downloaded from my Box.net widget in the sidebar.

Have fun!

  1. These are so cool! You are a master!!! I think sometimes I might reinstall PI, but I haven’t done it. I use PS almost exclusively to edit pics, so I’m not sure anymore how much I would use PI. I did love drawing with it though…and making objects and tiles and fills and masks and…

  2. I hear you Shirley. Just so many hours in a day. I’m slowly getting into PSE (very slowly) and hope after sitting down with PSE5 for Photographers, I’ll start to use it more.

Do you use any of the online PS resources? Can you recommend anything?

  3. WOW! I’m so impressed these are delightful. :-)

  4. Thanks tt! Are you a PI user?

  5. There are a few free PSE actions at atncentral.com

BTW, after commenting here, I decided to install PI again. I only have version 10. Never upgraded after that. Went to Photoshop. I have been so busy since then, however, that I haven’t had time to play with it. I hope things will be settled back down by Sunday.

  6. Hi Jennifer,
No I’m not a PI user.
