PI Goodies for March 2008

2008 March 6

200803-jent

Time to share another PI Goodie, this time a metallic glass preset. This preset was available on my defunct geocities website as three separate presets, but I find this single set much more convenient to use. The inspiration for this preset were both my first visit to Venice in 2001 and Kelly Sweet’s “Whirlpool Slats” tutorial, which is still available on his site “PhotoImpact Zone“.

You can download the 200803-JenT.zip file from the Box.net Widget in my sidebar. If you are having any trouble using this Goodie, please feel free to use the contact form on my *About page. I’m always happy to help.

I’m writing up a tutorial on using the Lights Material tab to enhance this preset, but that won’t be available yet for a while. Life is relentless at the moment. Somehow, though, I did find the time to write up a Snapshot tutorial (my very first!) on Making 3D blocks in PI. The tutorial came about from a discussion on the very new and very (!) active PIRC Forum. MaryLou is tireless and she’s got a good crew with her. Come join the fun.

I wasn’t aware there is still a PI forum. Some day when life settles, I want to reinstall PI and play with it again. I’m several versions behind now (I think I might have v.10), but I don’t know that I will ever update it. I suppose it will work with Vista. I used to love doing presets and had a bunch I had done. I suppose I still have them somewhere.

New forum started by the lady that runs PIRC, which has been around a long time. We’ve been in the PI community long enough to see things come and go.

About v10, some people have reported compatibility issues with Vista, others have had no problem. When it comes time to install, have a look at the forums and/or the Ulead or Corel sites. I’m using v8 on XP SP2, so far, knock wood, it behaves.
